Vast signs memorandum of understanding with the UK Space Agency to explore human spaceflight and science opportunities for Haven-1

Vast recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UK government to help advance the UK’s space leadership by exploring joint opportunities in human spaceflight, STEM, the humanities, and local industry partnerships for missions on Haven-1, scheduled to be the world’s first commercial space station.
In collaboration with the UK Space Agency, Vast will explore commercial sponsorship opportunities to fund a space flight for UK Astronaut John McFall on Haven-1. McFall, a NHS surgeon who lost his right leg in a motorcycle accident at the age of 19, was selected by the European Space Agency (ESA) in 2022 for its groundbreaking Fly! Project, which is pioneering the inclusion of astronauts with physical disabilities in long-duration space missions. McFall is the first person with a physical disability to be medically cleared for a long-duration mission.
Research stemming from the potential Haven-1 mission could have significant benefits for disabled people here on Earth, such as the design of lighter, more adaptable prosthetics on Earth. Findings could also deepen our understanding of conditions like osteoporosis or muscle atrophy, which affect many disabled people, and provide new insights into rehabilitation techniques for amputees.
