Demonstrating Vast’s Commitment to Increasing Access to the Space Economy
Vast, the pioneering space habitation technology company building next-generation space stations, and the Agencia Espacial de Colombia (AEC), a private agency responsible for the execution of Colombia’s space program, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore cooperation in science, technology, education, and human spaceflight.
This agreement marks a strategic milestone in Latin America’s integration into the global space economy. Through this MOU, AEC will partner with Vast to explore scientific research and payload development by Colombian universities and research centers, educational and outreach programs through AEC’s flagship “Aprendiendo con Galileo” initiative, designed to inspire young generations in STEAM fields, and industry engagement, connecting Colombia’s emerging aerospace and technology sectors with the international supply chain supporting orbital infrastructure.
Both organizations intend to work together to identify joint initiatives that leverage Vast’s spacecraft, including Haven-1, scheduled to be the world’s first commercial space station, with AEC’s growing ecosystem of data analytics, connectivity, and science education programs.
Vast also holds agreements with Uzbekistan's Ministry of Digital Technologies, the Czech Ministry of Transportation, and the European Space Agency (ESA).
Vast continues its rapid progress towards launching Haven-1 with recent milestones including the successful mission of Haven Demo, an in-orbit testbed for space station technologies.
About the Colombian Space Agency
The Agencia Espacial de Colombia is a private organization that articulates government, academia, and industry to advance the development of Colombia’s space capabilities. Its ecosystem integrates three strategic verticals:
- GreenSat: AI-powered satellite analytics and geospatial intelligence.
- StarSat: Satellite connectivity and broadband networks.
- Aprendiendo con Galileo: STEAM education and science outreach.
Together, these programs support AEC’s mission to position Colombia as a hub for sustainable, inclusive, and data-driven innovation in Latin America.
About Vast
Founded in 2021 by Jed McCaleb, Vast is developing humanity’s next-generation space stations and pioneering the path to long-term living and thriving in space. Haven-1, scheduled to be the world’s first commercial space station, is currently in development and is expected to launch NET May 2026. Vast is also developing Haven-2, the proposed successor to the International Space Station (ISS), designed to serve NASA’s Commercial LEO Destinations (CLD) program as a micro-gravity laboratory in space. Vast’s long-term ambition is to create artificial gravity habitations that enable humans to live in space, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring a spacefaring future for all.
